I always love the street style at New York Fashion Week. This year I have to admit the styles were amazing, or at least I thought so. I loved most of what I saw. If you didn’t know I am the queen of black and white, and I love a good jumpsuit and this was two of the big street style trends that we saw this year.
70′s Style: Boho Chic, fringe and jumpsuits everywhere. 70′s were a promanant thread in most of the street styles. Right up my ally.
Men’s Wear: Lots of big blazers and tuxedo like blazers over feminine ruffled dresses. I like it over a dress, the full men’s wear look I thing can be a bit much but these girls managed to pull it off.
Monochromatic Colour Scheme: Solid colour everywhere, solid black, brown and blue reigned supreme.
Black and White: The look of the week for sure and my all time favourite colours of course.
Leather Shorts & Chanel: Personal favorite look, how can you go wrong in a casual cool way like this. Love it.
Fall’s boots are made for walking. I have to admit, as much as I love the summer and all the great dresses and sandals that come along with it there is just something so great about putting on a new pair of beautiful and funky fall boots. Booties are huge this fall, following behind the bootie trend there is the riding boots and over the knee boots. Since I am all about my booties this fall I have picked out my very favourites for fall.
Split Front Booties: I love these from Christian Louboutin. Perfect for and evening out with a short dress or skinny jeans and a blazer with a nice clutch. These Gianvito Rossi suede ones are also a great pick for fall.
Peekaboo Booties: Cage and ” Peekaboo” booties add interest to any outfit for fall. They are a perfect transition piece as the weather can be hot still in most places you can keep your feel cool and still transition out of you sandals. Favourite: The Yvonne Suede Cage Bootie by Michael Kors.
Stacked Heal: Talk about comfort and cool looking, the stacked heal gives you both a lift in your shoe wardrobe and in your step. These Vince Brigham open toe booties are edgy, fun and add a crisp look to any outfit.
Ankle Strap: Classy, delicate and will add a touch of flair to your night. A little reminder to watch your length of your skirt when wearing an ankle strap bootie, best paired with a short flared skirt, if you wear a longer midi skirt you are liable to visually cut off the lines of you legs…making them look choppy and stumpy. The Jeffrey Campbell will be sure to be a crowd pleaser.
Men’s Wear : Self explanatory, they look like lace up men’s shoes with a heel. This pair from French Connection does the trick and the price point is not bad.
Boots seen on the very top are by Anine Bing.

Always a big question I get as we get close to Labour day is ” Can you wear white after Labour Day?” The answer is yes and no. A bit of history for you, this “no white after Labour day” started in the 1800′s. The wives of the super-rich ruled high society with an iron fist after the Civil War. As more people became millionaires, it was difficult to tell the difference between old money, and those who only had “vulgar” new money. By the 1880s, in order to tell who was acceptable and who wasn’t, the women who were already “in” felt it necessary to create dozens of fashion rules that everyone in the know had to follow. That way, if a woman showed up at an event in white, but it was after labour day, the other women would know not to give her the time of day.
Since many of you have invested in quality white pieces over the summer and would like to still get some use of of them coming into fall I have listed a few ways that you can keep them in rotation.
1. A white blazer: If you’re planning on wearing one in the fall, pair it with a black or grey tank or turtleneck and dark skinny jeans, instead of the loose camisole and shorts you’ve been wearing it with all summer. This makes it more season-appropriate. Shop my favourites here, here and here. I found this Rag and Bone one on sale here.
2. A white belt: “This accessory mixed in with neutral-colored bottoms and a colorful top offers up a colorblocking effect, which is a very stylish move. You can throw on a black blazer to make it a bit more fall. Find my favorite’s here and here.
4. White pants: “These can read the wrong season unless they’re in a fall fabric. You wouldn’t want to wear a white silk pant in the winter, however you could pair a white denim pant with a suede shoe or black pump and that’s totally acceptable.” My favourite white jeans for fall: here, here and here.
It’s that time of year again, in the world of fashion fall and winter have been unveiled in the stores half way through summer. The fall trends for 2014 are looking amazing. I mean who isn’t excited about oversized sweaters, motto jackets and cozy scarves. There are may trends out there but I have listed my top favourite trends and the most wearable pieces.
The Over Sized Sweater – By far the fall favourite for every one…the chunky sweater. I really like the texture and the colour of this sweater by L’AGENCE. It has a soft, chunky knit, knotted leather buttons a bit of a vintage charm, and patch pockets at the hips. Pair it with skinny jeans a classic white tee and a pair of booties or high tops.
If you are looking for a cardigan that is a bit dressier try this minimalist Brochu Walker cardigan.
The Wrap Coat – Ever wish you could walk outside in your cosy robe, well now you can. The wrap coat is your new favourite fall piece. Cosy, classy, comfortable and right on trend. As we come into fall I tend to stick to grey, white and black. I love this one by Vince it is asymmetric with leather piping, perfect for running errands or heading out to dinner.
This wrap coat by Ralph Lauren is also a classic piece.
How could you not love this Vivienne Westwood oversized woven one.
Fall Sneakers – Much to our excitement the humble sneaker came down the runway for fall 2014 and has been ordained the season’s superstar. I have these Ash high tops and I love them. Easy to wear with a chunky sweater and skinny jeans, or even dress them up with a blazer, white tee and skinny jeans. Check out these here and similar here. New Balance has been making waves in the sneaker world and are easy to throw on with a sweatshirt and look cool and comfortable.
This Steve Madden quilted slip on has a very classic look.
Theses Jeffery Campbell ones are fun, add light coloured jean shorts and a grey shirt or sweater. Keep the colour just to the feet and everything else neutral.
Fall Orange – Pops of tangerine were all over the fall runway. Try integrating a piece or two into your wardrobe this fall for a little fun. This Petit Bateau Lemurien Long Sleeve Sweater is a perfect addition to your wardrobe. The Christopher Kane orange sweatshirt would look great to run errands or wear out on the weekend.
Metric orange cotton blend jeans from Notify.
Orange Tiered dress from Milly.
Animal Motif – Always a favourite and holding it’s fashionable ground for yet another year, animal prints are looking great for fall. This Joie sweater is an subtle way to join the trend and add a little excitement to your wardrobe.
Love this Diane Von Furstenberg dress I found on sale at the Outnet.
Animal Print Skinny Jeans from Just Cavalli also on sale at the Outnet.
