Belly Button Rings Are Back

It is true that on the Fall 2013 runways the Nineties are back. There was lots of grunge flannels, babydoll dresses, and Doc Martens. I personally love this era as I was rocking it at this point
I was also sporting…yes the beloved belly button ring. In fact I took my 14 year old sister to the mall to get one, seeing as I was a responsible 18yr old and I could sign off on it for her. My parents were thrilled obviously.
As it seems the belly button rings are popping back up with a vengeance.

It’s been nine years since I removed that curvy barbell with its diamond ends from my body for good, yet I still have a tiny mark just above my belly button as a reminder of a much simpler time. A time before the belly ring fell from grace and the piercing’s reputation sank almost as low as the tramp stamp’s. In a word, they were trashy.

However there’s been a crazy influx of celebs once again donning bejewelled belly buttons. Beyonce in her new H&M campaign and she wore an even flashier piece on the April issue of Shape. Lindsay Lohan, who may or may not be undergoing her 14th career comeback, was seen sporting some midriff sparkle around Coachella this past weekend. I will say that she is a bit trashy so we can’t really look to her for direction….And of course there is always Britney Spears… also up for debate….so what we are really looking to is Beyonce

I guess the question is…are we ready to once again embrace belly button piercings back into the mainstream, beyond the sleazy grotto of the Playboy Mansion? And perhaps most importantly… are you?
I am not sure if I can go there…but I am certainly eyeing up the belly rings in the jewellery section.
