I'm stuttering. Eating my hair. Shoe treads. What happens to my voice? I hope I look good. I have no idea.
Welcome back to secrets of a stylist. I am so excited to see you guys. I am sorry. I have missed you. If you guys are watching this video and you've watched a whole bunch here, you'll be like, well, I've seen you, but I actually stopped filming for a little bit. I wasn't sure what I should film. I've got lots of emails from you guys saying you want to see the trends, you want to see fancy dresses, you want this stuff. It makes you happy. I love your emails. Just keep sending them, keep saying hi to me in the comments. Okay, I'm going to shut up now. Let's get into the video.
Today I am talking about the top 10 shoe trends for 2021 and how to wear them. And again, I'm not suggesting you buy these. I'm telling you the information for fun. So you can know what the trends are. You can decide what you want, what you don't want. You could also shop your closet.
Read more....This is interesting cause I have one of these trends in my closet from like, I think 2007. I don't keep a lot of things. Or you can shop consignment stores. So they'll have some of the stuff too, because some of it's coming back.
Okay. Number one trend: big fat flip-flops. We saw these on the runway. Coming down the spring summer runway last year. They showed the trend. It is here now. It is in stores. This is like, I feel like the big fat flip-flops are, I want to say like the early 2000. I had a pair that Oprah suggested called the fit flop. Remember those? Mine were actually sequenced silver. I gave them to my mom and my mom is actually still wearing them. So look for those types of things.
You watch any my videos, you know I actually hate flip-flops. But I'm kind of down with that. I think cause I've seen it linked on a high-fashion way. But they're comfortable. They're fun. And you know your feet are not going to get hot. So I think it's a cool trend. I'm into it. I have a couple of old pairs. I'm gonna bring those babies out.
Remember the wedged ones? So that is one of the trends we've seen many times. So check it out. Tell me your good fine stuff below. I'm going to link some for you. Let's have fun with the fat flip-flops.
Trend number two. This is really happening. It is house slippers. Yes and that's right. 2020 literally was the year of the slippers because most of us were locked inside.
Before this ever happened, that was already a trend. And the slippers are making their way outside. I'm not usually a trend person. I tend to invest more in classic shoes. However, I don't know. I had these pair of slippers that look like, um, outdoor shoes and I'm into them. And so I think I'm going to get into this trend.
So this is kind of fun. They're fuzzy slides. Take that way or they actually look like slippers some of them. So you're going to wear those. You're going to throw out a pair of shorts in the summer. You're going to throw those on, let's say they're fuzzy slidesf are cute tank top. It's a more casual look. If you want to dress it up, power to you, you can do that, but it's a fun trend. You don't have to spend a lot of money. I think it's worth it.
If you feel like being a little trendy and bougie out there and your slippers anyway, multitude of colors, so many styles, so many price ranges. So let me help you guys think of the strength. I think it's really fun. And again, I'm not trendy type of person. Loveing it.
Trend number three is clogs. These also came down to the spring summer runway. I saw the man and I'm seeing them now out in stores. I am a clog fan.
I actually grew up in Botswana in Africa if you guys know that about me. And get this, I remember this pair of red clogs that I had, and I wore them with literally everything. I've pictures of myself in these red clogs with like the blue leggings and a blue dress. I was pretty sure that I thought I was styling. But I think I've always had a thing for clogs.
So here's the thing about clogs. You can dress them up, dress them down. Throw them on with a pair of Bermuda shorts and a really nice tank top tucked in. You look fantastic. You can wear them with dresses. You can wear them with wide leg pants. They've got a little bit of platform. They'll give you some hike is super comfortable. So I personally really am a fan. I think they're fun.
If you're going to invest in clogs. I think they're going to come back again and again, as trends do. So my advice is through to spend some money, go to the neutrals. There's an amaze pair that I'm dying for. I'm pretty sure I'm going to buy those. I really liked them. But anyway, clogs. I'll leave, which links down below. Let me know, are you into it?
Okay. The next trend is a flat forms. These were here last year and I believe they were here the year before.
In fact, One of my girlfriends picked up a pair of plat forms in Italy, like 10 years ago. So they they've been around a really long time. I think one of the reasons that they look good with a lot of things, like wide leg pants, phenomenal. Dresses, also great. I don't love them with shorts. It depends on the shorts. They need to be a little wider to throw a really heavy shoe.
For me, platforms are a great shoe because I'm an inverted triangle. So anything heavier on the bottom. It's wonderful for me. So it's the same thing for you. If you need a little bit of that grounding, that weight, fantastic. It gives you some height.
I bought a pair of Stella McCartney's last year on sale. I was like, hmm, I wonder if these are going to be around next year. I win, I guess they are. So I really love those ones. They have ropes that wrap around. Very cool. Platforms. There's lots of ways to style them. You get out there. See what you're finding.
And again, search in the consignment stores. There's so many great consignment stores. I'll link a few down below. One of them is my favorite. That is trending right now is called the Fashion Edit. So the owner actually is a very well-known stylist. She's nominal, and she used to be the editor of fashion magazine editor at large. Anyway, that's a great store. I'll give you the link to that down below.
Next trend, the chunky loafer. Okay. So this is kind of like taking the chunky leather boot and moving it into spring and summer. That is the chunky loafer. Okay. My very favorite is the Prada one. Check that out. But then I've actually had this Zuora chunky Loper that you guys have commented on for years. It's burgundy. It's got thick soil. I've had it for like six years. I still throw it on with outfits.
So obviously that came back. I don't know. I really rarely hold on to things and I held onto those and I've worn them for years. So the chunky Loper, a very easy to style. I love it with like a button down shirt, white pants, also with a really long skirt. So cute. Tank top, blazer, Jean jacket. A very versatile shoe. Wear it to work. Wear it out to lunch. Whatever you want. Very comfortable. Very stylish. The chunky loafer.
This is also one of my favorites. I feel like all of these shoes are my favorites. But I'm into them. I really liked shoes. So that's a thing. But maybe it's just that I've been inside a really long time. So I'm just so excited for all the shoes. But the retro runners, so fun.
Okay. I'm going to date myself here. But does anyone remember Tretorns? I had those. I had Tretorn. I went to an all girls school. We worked three times for gym and seeing them come out again. I'm seeing them in the stores. Super retro.
I actually saw a pair in the salvation army. My son wanted to go through thrift store shopping, which we found fantastic by the way. And I was like, I picked him up on like Tretorns. Crazy.
So great place to find vintage shoes. Vintage Nike's are coming out. Visa has a fantastic really cool pair. Adidas has some really cool pairs.
Again, another thing that I'm seeing is the bright colors. I'm totally down with this trend. Vintage runners, bright colors. There's nothing cuter than a monochrome outfit. So like white jeans, gray tank top, and throwing a really cute pair of vintage runners with bright colors. I love that look. Jean jacket, but again, through most of the Jean skirt, like we are all about all the fun and all the color lists here. Let's do it. Anything that you love, I say, go for it.
And the next trend, chunky Mary Jane's. Again, of course, product leader that seems to go along with their chunky loafer.
So for me, this is not really my jam. I seen them on people. They look amazing with little socks, with long skirts, with dresses. Maybe I'll get into it. I just need to like try them on a few times and like experiment with some outfits. But anyway, chunky Mary Jane's are out there. Really comfortable. Really feminine. Really beautiful. Such a great option for those of you who want to try those. And again, if you are heavier on the top, heavy shoes like that are fantastic for balancing out your body.
The next trend is mules. These are coming out now. Everyone's had their little ankles covered and the mules are coming out wild and fast. Kitten heels, chunky heels, colors. There's so many different styles. They are great investment.
I have a fantastic pair mules I still have three years, and you just slide your foot in and go. You feel like you've tried. You feel like you are looking good, cause it's not like Frenchy runner or a little flip flop. So I really like mules. I felt they're comfortable. They look dressy and again makes you try to love them. Check them out down below.
One of the last trends that is coming out, that I saw on the runways, is thick chains on shoes. So this isn't really a trend for me. But when I see them, I really liked them. Okay. I'll tell you what I do like. I do like the thick chains on the strappy sandals. I think that's really pretty, really elegant.
I can see that kind of like a heavier flowing dress, the thick chains on the Lopers and stuff like that. I'm not totally sure. I'm not super into a lot of hardware on my shoes. Well, other than I have a couple of pair of boots, I had a lot of hardware. But that is a trend. It can really dress up for outfit.
So again, a really nice monochromatic outfit. Maybe you have a navy pair of trousers on, a white blouse and some change loafers. So pretty. So classy.
One tip I will give you if they aren't changed, you want to stick to an outfit it's a little more neutral. So for example, you don't want to get into like a big flower trend and then have chained shoes on it's just a lot going on. So keep your outfit simple. And wear your chained shoes.
The last trend is ballet flats. So these came in a little while ago, Miu Miu had a pair that everyone had. I'm not sure if you guys remember them. But it literally looked like ballet shoes. And they wrapped around the ankle. I of course bought them.
But here's the thing about ballet flats. I love them. They're really classy. They are better for certain body types than others. And you're really careful about the outfit that you're wearing. So for example, I'm an inverted triangle. I have wide shoulders. I get narrowed to my hips. So if I'm wearing ballet flats, I ended up just going like this. So I look much better with like chunky shoes, wider, like pants, so that I'm balancing my body out.
So if you're someone who has like really narrow shoulders, you're kind of like long and linear and really dainty. Those are great shoes for you. I feel like you need to be in something like very streamlined and like feminine. They'll look good. I have seen them obviously with like shorts and stuff like that.
It just really depends on your body type. Regardless of what your body actually looks like, you want it to look like an upside down triangle on the top. And then a triangle on the bottom. So you're just wanting to balance out all your bits and so that you look perfectly apportioned.
I hope that you guys enjoyed this video. I have got a lot of emails from you guys saying it has been a dark time for you and you enjoyed watching my videos when they brought you light. Kim was absolutely a dream to work with. I had to find a dress for a New York red carpet film premiere, and she came to my home with amazing options to get the look perfect. She nailed it, and was so kind and supportive! She really made me feel super confident for such an important event, and took the stress off of me for getting the look together!
It was so great to work with her, and I look forward to the next time :)
