Welcome back to secrets of a stylist. I'm so excited to see you guys. If you guys don't know me, my name is Kim. I'm a fashion stylist. If you do, welcome back.
I'm excited to see you in 2021. Oof, that was a rough year. We're hoping for this one to be better. Okay. Let's move right into the video. The top cozy trends for 2021.
It has been a year of the sweatpants, a year of all things cozy. So let's move into one of the top trends that was there for 2020 and is now here again for 2021. It's tie dye. Okay. So some people out there saying tie dye is on its way out. I totally disagree.Read more....
Listen, we're stuck in the houses. There is a pandemic going on right now. When I'm filming this it's January, we're going to be coming into spring. You want to have something fun on your body. It feels good in the house. So if you like it, go forward. If you haven't bought any, buy some. Or you can make some. But tie dye has been actually one of the amazing trends.
So I have a few tie suits myself. Number one for tie dye. If you're more of a mellow person, you don't like a lot of color, get one that's like grey and white or beige and white. Or my daughter actually tie dyed her own. She went and bought H&M plain black sweats tie dyed them. Then they became like brown and black, very muted for tie dye.
If you like things that are bright, then go for that. I love those. You know what? Throw your tie dye first thing in the morning. Have your coffee, do your work and rock your game.
Okay. Body types and tie dye. If you are more of an apple body type, you carry your weight around the middle, go for something that has a bit of a longer open tie dye jacket.
There is the most amazing set from Rock 'N Karma who I dearly love. I have their tie dyes sweats.
They're so great. They've got a wide band. They've got really big pockets. So you're not looking to add weight on your bottom then maybe that's not for you. But if you're a bit of an apple, this is great. A wide waistband, a longer jacket. So it's going to draw attention away from the weight. So it kind of hangs great for you.
Tie dye for like the hourglass, you guys want something tighter. This is the same for everyone with all the different sweatpants. I'm giving you the same rules. If you are more of a rectangle body shape, so you're more square. You want something that's more floaty. Maybe you want to have something that's like puff sleeves or like bigger sleeves. So those are things to look out for for you.
And this second trend that is trending for 2021, the sweat short set. That's right. You heard me, sweat shorts. How great is this? So they're taking the sweats, chop them off the knee. They have a matching sweatshirt. I love this. It's kind of a fresh new look for spring 2021 and actually a really great bike for heading into spring. So instead of like biker shorts and a big oversized sweatshirts, go for the matching sweat shorts set with the matching top. I love this.
And again, you can buy for your body type. If you're maybe more of a like a rectangular body shape, get more of wider belowy shorts. If you're more of an hourglass, get tighter, shorter sweat shorts. So kind of dress for your body type, but it's a really fun thing to have in your wardrobe.
There is so many different, fun colors, and again, it carries you right into the spring. It'll be great to take you from the house right out to the grocery store or wherever you were going.
Then next one, dressy pajamas. I love this trend because it is multipurpose. Number one, we're all wearing our pajamas. Much later on into the day, especially if you are staying at home now and working from home, you might have your pajamas on till around noon or whenever you have your first zoom call. So dressy pajamas are a fantastic thing to invest in because you could actually wear them right until noon. And you still look classy and you look great and you don't feel bad about yourself.
So this could be anything that you like to wear, but spend a little money in it. Invest in your rest. I actually love a pair by kit pajamas. I have many pairs they're monogrammed. They are a hundred percent worth every dollar I've spent. The cotton is beautiful. The cut looks great and I feel great in them till noon. And in fact, there is a trend where you can actually throw those bottoms on with a pair of like kitten heels, pair of runners and wear them out of the door. Same thing with the whole pajama set. You can wear that out the door. That is an actual trend.
And I think I'm going to do a video on styling pajamas. Stay tuned for that. But dressy pajamas get rid of your like totally derpy old boyfriend's t-shirt that is disgusting and has stains that you're wearing, like let's class it up, stuck in the house. Let's move on.
The next trend is the ribbed knitwear. Ribbed knitwear is a total trend that is booming right now. So it could be with a short set there's matching like three piece sets. So like with a little bralette or a tank top, and then an open cardigan, I've seen those. Those are amazing. Any type of ripped pants. I have a cute pair from Dynamite that actually have a ribbed matching turtleneck. I love that piece. It's so cute. So anything with that ribbing, if you're like looking to freshen up your basic sweatsuit that you've been wearing, switch to the rib. So many different kinds out there. So many cuts.
And again, I'm just going to add in a little body tip. If you are someone like me, that's an inverted triangle, get a wide leg pair of ribbed sweatpants. How great are those bounces out your shoulders. Perfect for you.
Sweatsuit sets are still a thing. They're absolutely still trending. They will for all the 2021. So if you haven't got yourself a matching set, I know even some of my friends like, I really want to get a set, I've seen them all come out, but I haven't actually done it.
You know what? Grab any set that you think would work for your body type right now and loving the super colorful ones like this one. This is like a pop art, so cute. I put it on. I feel fine. I feel like I've actually done something. I haven't done anything. I've stayed in my house, but I feel like I tried and I feel like I leveled up my game.
This one's from Rock 'N Karma. And again, it's a little more out of my box. Cause typically if you guys watch me, you know, I tend to stick to the neutrals. But I've absolutely loved this one. I'm so into it. Try a colorful one, have a little fun, get a matching set, invest in it and enjoy your life.
So as for, I don't know what colors right for me, if that's your question, look in your wardrobe. What do you have a lot of color? What is color you get most compliments on? I've also done a video, which I will link down below on how to find your color. What is your undertone? That's really important. I give tons of tips and tricks on there, so you can look that up, but matching sweatsuits, still trends.
What are the last trends I'm going to talk about is sweater pants. So this is not the ribbed sweat pants, not the actual sweat pants. But they're actually like sweater material. So classy. I see them a lot in capris. Fantastic. You have great ankles, these are good for you. You could throw those on with a pair of army combat boots, a pair of runners. So fantastic. I love them. Many different sizes, shapes, cuts, colors, and you can wear them out. You can actually dress them up later when you go out in the spring and the summer. Tucked in little t-shirt and Jean jacket with your sweater pants, you're so comfortable. You're elevated. It works for inside the house and out.
Just one thing that I didn't talk about. I feel like my pears, I missed you guys. So I didn't talk about what sweat pants work for you guys. So pears, you might want to mix it up. If you typically carry your weight on the bottom, you might want to have different colors. So look a darker on the bottom. Maybe they're black, maybe they're dark brown. Brown is really trending. And then your sweat top is like a lighter color. Maybe it's got ruffles. Maybe it's got some billowing sleeves. That's what you want to do to like dress it up and change your weight up. You want to add more volume to the top and keep the bottom darker or it just rocks whatever you want.
Thank you guys so much for tuning in. I hope that this trend video was useful information for you. I love you guys. I have missed you and I hope you grab your glass of Chardonnay or your coffee. Whenever you're watching this and leave a comment down below, say hi to me, tell me what's happening in your country. And I love you guys, and I will talk to you on the next. Yeah.
Kim was absolutely a dream to work with. I had to find a dress for a New York red carpet film premiere, and she came to my home with amazing options to get the look perfect. She nailed it, and was so kind and supportive! She really made me feel super confident for such an important event, and took the stress off of me for getting the look together!
It was so great to work with her, and I look forward to the next time :)
