Oh, summertime. All the wonderful fashion mistakes that we make during our, one of our favorite seasons. I'm going to get right into it and tell you what they all are and how not to make them.
Welcome back to Secrets of A Stylist. For those of you who don't know me, my name's Kim, I'm a fashion stylist. And for those of you do, welcome back. I'm so excited to see you guys.

I love it. Especially when the video first launches and then forever on after I still try to reply years later. Okay. Let's move on.
Read more....Fashion mistakes. Greatest one I've probably made or like one of the biggies and it is tanning spray or tanning cream or whatever it is that you use. Tanning foam. Whatever. Fake Tanner.
So it is a mistake that tons and tons of people make. So I have been, I think one too many times I've been like, Oh, I live in a sunny climate. It's kind of a beach place. I'm like, okay, well I'm going to go get a spray tan. Cause I'm whiter than white.
Also on my last video, someone actually commented. She needs to get a spray tan. Can you believe that? I was like, well, I was kind of getting into my pasty white look. But, um, anyway, spray tans, it's a thing. I used to get them for a while. I haven't really, I don't really bother anymore. Sometimes I do if I have a big event. If you can get a bad one, you turn really orange and that is one of the mistakes you do not want to make this summer.
Test it out first. Don't go the day before the big event. That's a massive no. I've done that. I went with one of my best friends. We had a huge event to go to. I was one of the speakers for the event. Oh, I've done a couple of times actually.
Another event. I went to a white party and I got a spray tan with her and we literally woke up in the next morning and we had to be at the event by three. We looked at ourselves and we were orange and I had to wear a white dress. We just walked around looking orange and smelling like vegetables the whole night. It was awesome.
But, um, anyway, and I've done that too. Heading on trips before I've gone actually to my best friend's wedding in Mexico, another girlfriend. And I stopped at the tanning salon and got a spray tan on our way to the airport. So we just stunk up our area of the plane smelling like vegetables. And by the time we landed, we were looked ridiculous.
So the ways to avoid it, test it before you have your big event. That's number one.
Number two, read the reviews. So if you're going to support us, some of the really good ones are a central pay is one of my favorites. It does have a smell I don't like. But it produces a really great color. I believe L'Oreal L'Oreal has a great like spray on a mist. I love that one. I found Palm Springs. I love Paradise. It had like no smell and it was a very gentle color. So I really liked that one.
So the tip is read the reviews online, ask your friends and then try it before the event. Because you do not want to show up smelling like vegetables or looking orange. Or another thing is be careful about rubbing off on your clothes. Have a shower before you put on your great outfit that you're heading to your event. And that's my tip.
Common mistake for the summer or anytime of the year is buying your clothes in the wrong size.
A lot of people right now are ordering things online. Just be careful. Don't stick to a number. Read the reviews online. Look at what the model is. How tall is she? What is her waist size? What is her chest size? And then compare that to yourself. If you don't have a measuring tape, you should have one in your house. This is like pivotal for ordering clothes. So you can get one at the dollar store. I have obviously lots cause I have done my styling kitten and my desk. But I was actually ordering something too. And I was like, I wonder where my exact chest sizes or my exact waist. And I measured it. Sure enough, I was off.
So you just want to kind of take a look at those things. Look how long the models' waste is compared to yours. Are you short waisted? Make sure you know your size and don't stick to a number. So if you want to be a four and you're not a four and everything, or don't try and be a two or a six or an eight or whatever it is if you're not that。 don't go by number, go by size and go by fit.
Also in the summer, I recommend sizing up. So just to clarify, I want you buying the right size. But if you're going to err on the side of caution, I wouldn't say size up, especially in the summer. It's okay if your t-shirts a little bit looser, a little more breezy. I think it looks classy. So anyway, don't stoop to a number, read the measurements and when in doubt, size up.
Another thing that you don't want to do is you do not want to jump on the trend bandwagon just because that's the trend.
So for example, one of the trends right now is like knee high socks. They're like shear with like, it can be floral or whatever. Well, I'm probably not going to wear a knee high socks with a skirt or a dress because it's not my style.
Or tie dye is a style and I actually really like it. But I'm probably not gonna wear like hot pink mixed with blue and yellow and like some psychedelic tie because. It's not my style. I'm probably going to pick a tie dye that's more muted. So it's going to be gray or like a white and nude color because it's a little bit more goes in. Um, it's with my own personality.
So don't jump on the trend bandwagon just because it is a trend. And also don't jump on multiple trend bandwagons. So meaning don't be like mixing yourself with like all the trends all in one look.
So if we get really excited about a whole bunch of things that you bought, but maybe they don't totally go together, just relax, pick your faith and then add some basics.
One of the fashion mistakes I think that people make all the time is not owning your own style.
I actually did a video on how to find your style. It's another question I get all the time. So you can check out that video. I'll leave a link to it down below. But find your style and then kind of roll with it. If you're someone that loves like a great blazer over a tank top with a pair of Bermuda shorts, don't go by a tie dye boho big baggy dress. Because you're just, you probably are never going to choose it and you're not actually going to be comfortable in it when you wear it.
So the most important thing is that A you feel really comfortable in what you're wearing, like physically comfortable, like the band fits the dress fits whatever. And the next thing is you feel comfortable in what style that you've chosen for yourself.
So whatever you are, just own that. And so, and then a point inside of that is that try to make sure, even in your own style that you're a little bit cleaned up.
So let's say like, if you don't like nail polish, don't wear any. Wear clear or just wear none and own that if you don't like makeup. I love a natural look. Don't wear makeup.
But whatever you do, don't go half way. So let's say you painted your nails once and now you're grumpy about it and they're all chipped and ratty. Well, that is, doesn't say anything great about you like that. Just take it off and have nude nails because that's also beautiful. So regardless of what it is, go all the way or don't do it at all.
The last fashion summer mistake that I do not want you to make this year is wearing dirty shoes. And I'm going to tell you, I just did this and if you want to check out my TikTok, I just started a TikTok account. I only have two videos. One of them is the shoe one. And then after that, I was like, I don't know if I want to do this. But I did this shoe video in it. Cause I love runners.
And so I was showing my runners and then when I watched the tech talk back, Aspen was helping me make it. I was like, wow, are my runners ever dirty? And I try to keep them clean. Well, there's nothing worse than like having on a cute pair of jeans and a little top, and then your runners are ratty. Like I literally, it ruined someone's look for me and it ruins it for you.
So I was looking at, I have a pair of Alexander McQueen white runners. I love them. I wear them all the time. I have another pair of . They just are so dirty. I'm like they don't, they would ruin any outfit is a fashion mistake.
In fact, there's a white sneaker cleaner. I'm going to leave a link to that down below. It is actually a miracle. It cleans them really well. You can also use Mr. Clean and you can also use VIM. Actually I did a video on how to clean your runners. I'll leave a link to that down below, too.
I hope that you guys enjoyed this video. Those are all the mistakes most of them that I've made. I really don't like making them. So anyway, all in good fun. I've done it all myself.
Thank you guys for tuning in. I love hearing from you. I love that you watch my videos and I love that you leave me comments. So say hi to me down below and check out the next video. And I will see you over there.
