Welcome back to secrets of a stylist. For those of you who don't know me, my name's Kim. I'm a fashion stylist, and for those of you who do, welcome back. I'm excited to see you guys. I'm going to rip right into this video because we are ripping right into spring.Read more....
So spring is coming. You have a wardrobe of winter things that you have jump packed. Now it's getting later. The weather is getting better and you're probably thinking, crap, I need to do some updating. I have what trends are there? I've got tons of videos you can look at back here.
Okay. Spring essentials. I've got you covered. Some of them are trends. Some of them are just things you need.
Number one thing that you need for spring, I'm wearing it, white jeans and a really easy way to lighten up for spring is to lighten up your pants. If you are not a white jeans kind of girl, you're like, Oh my goodness, I can't wear that. My legs are too big. I don't like this. I don't like that. Okay, we'll go with khaki.
Khaki is a great thing to have in your wardrobe. For spring high rise a little bit loose. You could have them cropped. And if you like white, definitely you need a pair of white denim. If you like dress your pants, white pants and your wardrobe for spring. Something to have. You can throw it on with a white tee shirt.
But I love, we all know, I love the monochromatic look. And a pair of like lighter colored boots, which I also have on. It's really nice in the spring to not to break up your look. So I've talked about this before. If you're gonna wear your white jeans, don't throw on a pair of dramatically different colored boots or shoes or whatever. Try to keep it streamlined. So the white jeans.
The second thing that you need in your wardrobe for spring that you might not have, is very 2020, is a cardigan. If you're watching this video in like 2023 not saying that it's in, then we're in 2020 when I'm filming. So a, cardigan. I actually love this one. I got it in Paris from Cezanne. It's going to look and see where I got it from. A cardigan is very 2020 so cute. You can wear it with anything. I'm going to suggest for spring to get it in a neutral color. Okay. Pause. I know there are so many of you out there watching this be like, lie can't wear camel. I sound my color.
Okay. Wait, I'm not saying you personally need one. I'm just saying if it looks good on you, it's a great thing to have if you can't wear camel, a white cardigan is fantastic. A gray cardigan, anything neutral. Navy, very classy and classic. So it's just something that's trending and you can throw it on. Like I literally wear this one all the time with my graphic team.
I like it because it's cut short and a lot of my pants are high rise. I also like it that cause it's very light and I can layer it. I can actually throw a trench coat over top of this. I have a light and camel color trench coat. I can throw it on top. I also have a wool coat that I can wear on top.
Something else that's kind of trending is like. See how it's sort of open, sort of the, it's almost like grandma E crocheted type look. So that's also a trend right now. So that's a really cool thing to wear. Again, I was in Paris just a few months ago. I saw pieces like this absolutely everywhere. They're literally in every store. I will leave a few ones down below and again, go with your body types. So if you need to have a longer sweater, you can do that. If you want to have a corrupt whatever works for you, just don't have it really dumpy.
A quality bag for spring in a light color. I get a lot of DMS and texts from you guys and you will actually, and I don't mind it. I love it. You will lay out your clothes. I forgot who it was that sent me the one. I think you were going to Paris or Europe and you had your jacket laid out, but the person didn't match. So this is something that's actually really common. For spring, when you lighten up your whole wardrobe, you think about lightening up your purse as well.
For example, when you're wearing old white or you're wearing a denim shirt, are you wearing like a camel colored sweater, it's actually really nice to have a lighter purse that goes with your wardrobe. This is one that I love to use in spring. I got it last year. Something like I like about it is the camel color. I like the gold accents, but I was specifically looking for a purse to use in spring and summer.
I actually don't have a lot of purses, but the ones I do buy, I usually spend money on. I spent quality. I know it's very bougie purse, but it's the one that I wanted and so I bought it. So anyway, if you can just see this against my outfit. It just very monochromatic. It looks really good and it's easy to wear with anything. So this can go with your spring dresses, your white jeans, your khaki pants.
A question I also get asked is, is it okay to mix metals? It totally is. In fact, often a lot of rings are now mixed metals. I don't really wear silver. I usually wear warmer tones, but if I had silver hoops on, if you want to ask me if that's okay, it's okay. So don't worry about it. Unless you like to be matchy and then go with the matching. But anyway, a light color, quality purse, you need it. It's essential for spring.
Since we are talking about metals, I will talk about my hoops. I think a pair of gold hoops is essential. I typically really only wear studs, but Anna Louisa sent me these hoops, and so I put them on and I find them really lightweight and I actually like the size of them. It's very nineties, but it also gives it just totally different look. So a pair of bigger gold hoops is actually a fantastic thing to have in your wardrobe for spring. It can instantly update your outfit and make you look really cute without doing much at all. If you like these, I'll leave a link to them down below. They are recycled gold and they, I have a discount code for 10% off. That'll be down below. Gold hoops.
Khaki shorts. Okay. So this isn't essential for spring, but also it's a huge trend right now. The Bermuda shorts. So they're longer to like mid thigh or even the even your knee. But having a pair of khaki shorts is so great for spring. You can throw on a white tee shirt, a Jean shirt over top. You can scrunch up the sleeves. It's just a very classic look. You can throw it on with a pair of sandals, or you can throw it on with a pair of booties, loafers, whatever your look is. Or if you don't want to go the Bermuda shorts, a pair of khaki pants. But a pair of khaki shorts or Bermuda shorts is really fantastic for spring.
Light colored booties. So this is something that I find extremely useful for spring, and you may not have them in your wardrobe. So a pair of light colored booties. So often when everything else lightens up, you're wearing a lighter dress, you're wearing lighter jeans, lighter shorts. You can't really have a heavy shoe color. So like a black is just too heavy for spring. So if you don't have a pair of light colored booties, so like cammo or tan or gray or whatever color palette you are moving towards, those are fantastic to have. I always suggest having a pair of flat booties. Because you can wear them with shorts, you can wear them with dresses. But just a great option to have if you love to wear heels and get a pair of heeled booties. But you really need to have a light pair of booties in your wardrobe, you will wear them all spring.
A light colored wrap dress. So I'm combining trends with essentials here a little bit. But a wrap dress fits every body type. If you don't have one in your wardrobe, I'm really going to suggest you put some effort into looking for one. It will be one of those pieces, if it fits well, the anytime you are in a rush, you can throw it on and walk out the door and you will look fantastic.
Moving into the trend part of that essential is actually white dresses. The spring came down the runway. They look beautiful. So if you can pull in a light, a camel, or a white dress into your spring wardrobe as a basic, you will thank me. Whatever color works well for you. If you can pull it off, I would definitely say add one. It always looks so classy and so classic.
I like to personally wear my white dresses with booties, depending on the event. But I'm a little more edgy. But you might want to just put on like a simple tan mule or a flat sandal, or if you want, if you're dressing it up, a nude pump, a fantastic piece to have in your wardrobe. You definitely need to have one.
A brown belt. I actually am on the hunt for a really good brown belt. I have a few, but I just don't love them as much as I used to. And so a brown belt for spring can be incredibly useful. So you can use it on any of your white jeans, tucked in with a Jean shirt, white shirt on a wrap dress. You could put the brown belt around to add some accent if you have an oversized laser. Again, the belt looks fantastic. And again, for spring we're lightening things up. So a brown belt is very useful to have in your wardrobe because it's going to be a little harder to pull off a black belts cause it's just a bit heavy for spring. So I'll leave a link to a few brown belts that I really like down below.
Something else that you might not have in your spring wardrobe that is so useful, is some type of adaptation of a trench coat. Right now, white is really trendy. So if you can find some sort of light long white coat, it would be fantastic to throw that on top of anything. Or a light tan color is fantastic. That is really trending. And oftentimes you go outside in the morning, it's a little bit cooler, but by the afternoon you don't necessarily need it anymore or you just don't need something really heavy. So it's a great piece to have. There are some phenomenal pieces, actually, like in an army color. And it doesn't exactly have to be a trench coat. But I'm just talking about some type of light cotton coat that hangs a little bit longer that you can wrap around. Put your brown belts on with it. Fantastic to have.
The last thing that you need in your spring essentials to really update yourself and feel good is actually very simple. It's sunglasses. So a lot of times I have clients that have had like a pair of sunglasses. They'd had them for like 10 years. Doesn't matter if you don't care about style and you're just like happy I had these sunglasses. I haven't lost them. They're not scratched. I leave it in my car. Awesome. If you want to update yourself and have some great new essentials. Sunglasses with the chain. You can buy chains too separately. Actually, I'll leave you some links of some chains down below. I love these. I found these. I got these actually away when I was away in Paris.
This is a trend right now with the chains. It goes over like that. If you want to add a chain to your sunglasses, gold rim sunglasses. There are so many different styles. You actually have to choose a pair that are right for your face. So I'm not going to advise on that.
But what I'm talking about as essential is just updating your wardrobe with a new pair of sunglasses. Again, they don't have to be expensive. You can get sunglasses that are as low as like $10 to $20 that might not have the right polarized lens for you. But if you don't care about that, perfect. If you want to spend a little bit more on a sunglass, then go for it. It's more about the shape of your face. And if you want to add the chain, there's a million out there. I have loved, I literally, I'm loving this trend because I wear these all the time because I let them hang down because I hate putting them in my hair because those always get stuck or they go flying off.
So if you're into the trends and you want to update yourself a little bit. Sunglasses with the chain.
For guy is wondering and, or if you're sitting here going, my boyfriend or husband can wear your chain. That'd be good for him cause he's always losing his glasses. Yes he can. It's super trendy. It's the 90s. Go get him like a neon band for his sunglasses. Like remember the Ray-Ban ones? Totally in Maui jim. Still popular. Anyway, it's great for your guy. Be a great gift for him for father's day or whatever. We'll never lose the sunglasses and you can adapt it to his style or taste.
Thank you guys so much for tuning in. I hope that you enjoyed this video.
There are so many things out there that are great to have an update your wardrobe. I tried to give you the most basics. So that's always my thing, the basic. I feel like no one has them with a little bit of style. So again, it's up to you how far you want to take it, or you want to just get very classic pieces. That's all on you.
Anyway. Remember, if you guys liked this video or you want to share some other essentials that you have, leave a comment down below. Say hi to me for the first half hour of these videos launched. I sit online and I answer your questions, so I'm excited to hear from you guys and I will see you on the next video.
Kim was absolutely a dream to work with. I had to find a dress for a New York red carpet film premiere, and she came to my home with amazing options to get the look perfect. She nailed it, and was so kind and supportive! She really made me feel super confident for such an important event, and took the stress off of me for getting the look together!
It was so great to work with her, and I look forward to the next time :)
