Dressing up your summer swim look, something fun, something easy to do. I know we might not necessarily be going to work group gatherings, but today I'm going to show you how to quickly throw on a summer outfit with a bathing suit that will make you look elevated and feel great.
Welcome back to Secrets of a Stylist. I hope that you guys are doing fabulous. For those of you who don't know me, my name's Kim. I'm a fashion stylist. And for those of you can do, welcome back. I'm always excited to see you and always excited to hear from you to comments. It's so fun. Sometimes I turn on the video and the comments are like blowing up, saying hi from everywhere around the world. I love it.
Read more....Okay. So what I move right into the video. One of the things I find there's a problem for me and maybe it's problem for you. Sometimes I'll get a text. Come over. I want to come over for a barbecue and half an hour by the pool. Or come over. We're going to the beach or we're going on the boat.
And I'm a stylist. I'm really knowledgeable at fashion and I have quite a lot of clothes. But sometimes you're like, what is the right outfit to throw on, on top of a bathing suit, and what are the pieces that I need? So I fall into this category. If you do, stay tuned to the very end, because I have all the good ones happen in there.
Okay. Starting off, let's say the most obvious is really with your bathing suit. You're heading outside. You need a pair of sunglasses. There are so many different styles that are good for different face shapes. If you want to be sporty, if you want to be classy, I'm going to kind of stick with like, you want to dress it up a little bit.
So one of the trends that's happening that was happening last year is still happening is the sunglass chain. Currently right now, Gucci has like these big fat ones that are in like a resin. These are Chanel. So they're a little more on the higher end. I love this chain.
I saw a girl in Hawaii last year. She had them. I'm like, what are those? I need a pair. So these have very quickly become my favorite goto sunglasses. If you don't want to pay the hefty price, you can literally buy sunglass chains everywhere. I will leave you a link down below. Everywhere from Amazon to Etsy, to many different brands have them.
Something I love about it. Not only does it look cool because it's trending and it's something kind of unique right now, but also it's incredibly useful. It's like going back to like the old days when we all our parents had like those ropes around their sunglasses, same idea. So I take these on and off and I love it.
I like the gold chain because if I'm dressing up. It's a fantastic thing. But again, elevated look, get a chain for your glasses. Get a gold or silver pair of whatever your color is. And it just kind of classes up the outfit. So classy per sunglasses.
The second item that you need to dress up your swim look so to give yourself an elevated look, is something other, ready for this, then a pair of rubber flip-flops.
Anyone who's been watching my channel for a long time. Knows I have this thing against rubber flip-flops. Okay. They're fantastic around the pool and that's where they should be. If you're getting an elevated look and you're going to some sort of like beach event, a beach party, beach, barbecue, getting different pair of shoes.
So these ones are actually one of the pairs I just had on my feet. These are obviously Gucci. Every time I wear these. I get a ton of questions about them because people always ask me, I heard they weren't worth it. I heard they were uncomfortable. They're all of those things actually.
So I bought these and I was in Palm Springs. They felt a bit tight across the top of my foot. And so I bought a size up. It ended up that I bought them way too big and I trip on everything. They're incredibly flat. So I actually sound like a duck when I walk and I'm like flat, flat, flat, flat, but I paid for them.
They are good looking. And so I do like that. Uh, would I recommend them? No, I wouldn't recommend these. But I'm going to give you a few links to other shoes that are similar. That would be great to elevating your look. I always think it's nice to get a black pair, um, that can anchor any outfit. It's classic.
Again. I like these because they do have the gold on them. And so when we're talking about elevating your look. A little bit of gold on the shoe, um, some metallics, some sparkle, some other shoes that are fantastic for an elevated beach look, surprisingly Birkenstocks have made a resurgence. So any of the gold ones I've seen a friend of mine has a pair of Rose gold ones. I think those are really cool.
So get a pair of different purse sandals that you can wear with your beach look other than rubber flip flops.
The next item, that's fantastic to have ready in your reach to walk out the door for classing up your peach outfit, gold hoops.
I got these ones from Anna Louisa. They are not expensive. They are recycled gold. So I really like that about them. I find them just the right weight. They're just the right width. They're actually a fantastic pair. I'll leave a link to those down below.
But a pair of gold hoops really trending. If you're watching this video five years from now, and that happens, maybe the not trending then. But in 2020, as I filmed this video, gold hoops are really trendy.
And again, if you're looking for a sophisticated beach look, a pair of gold hoops is a must.
While we're on the jewelry lineup. Again, if you're going for an elevated beach look, having one nice bracelet that can go in and out of the water is a great idea.
So sometimes if you're looking at costume jewelry, if it's gold plated or anything like that, it eventually starts to wear off. You can't wear it in the ocean. You can't wear the pool.
So when investing in like a really nice gold or silver bangle is actually fantastic. So I have one that I wear all the time. Obviously this one is a little more expensive. This one's Cardiay. But the reason that I like it is because A it's not coming off my wrist, but B it's solid gold. So I can go in, I wear it in the pool and the ocean.
I just don't ever take it off. I always look dressed up, which I'm all about being classic and simple. But it will never tarnish. And so it's really nice to get the best quality that you can. Get one gold bangle or one silver bangle, or if you want to pair them, get two.
But they're really flexible and they're versatile because they actually can go with you in whatever environment you were in. So something I highly recommend. The best quality that you can afford that is very basic and classic and keep on your wrist, great for an elevated look.
A pair of shorts still worth for an elevated beach look. The type of shorts that I like for this look, maybe a white pair of linen shorts. You can tie that with like a light Jean shirt, tie a knot. You can have a ribbed tank top with them. Something else.
If you're looking for something that's a little more casual, but still trending, tie dyed shorts. So I like a pair of cotton shorts. Something I love about these. These are from a brand called Bobi. Bobi. I love you. They are a hundred percent cotton and they're made in the U S they're actually made in LA.
Um, the first time I found them, I believe was on Revolve or Shopbop. I bought a few of their pieces and they've sort of been my go to for summer cotton pieces because I feel like they're classic, they're versatile and they, I get a ton of wear out of them.
So these tie dyed shorts, what I like about them is the cut along the leg.
They're kind of longer in the butt and longer in the front and they got cut up a little bit on the side of the thigh. Because they're tie dyed, I like them to be muted. Because we're talking about a classic and classy elevated look, obviously like the bright pink neon, yellow, orange, whatever, doesn't really go with that look. That's more of a sporty, fun beach day.
But I really liked these because again, I feel like you can throw on a linen shirt open with these, with like a plain white bathing suit, black bathing suit, gray baiting suit. So they're just something different other than Jean shorts. So I say a pair of classy cotton shorts or a pair of linen shorts are a great addition to classing up your bathing suit.
So we can't really talk about dressing up your bathing suit unless we talk about the coverup. So of course there are many different kinds of coverups. There are some beautiful calfgans out there.
I love a good calfgan, especially after I've maybe been swimming in the Lake or I'm in a pool at a hotel, you throw that on. It's very light and breezy and long. And so if there's a little bit of a breeze or you're a little bit cold coming out of the pool, or it's a breeze on a beach or on a patio, it looks great. It covers your legs. You sort of stay a bit warm, but it's nice and like loose.
So there's also a wraparound skirt or a sarong. This is a fantastic thing to wear. So here's the thing about the sarong. It's giving you volume at the bottom. So for those of you that are a little bit top heavy, a sarong is a great thing for you. Because you've got it notted at the side that's adding some weight to your lower half.
So for someone like me, who's an inverted triangle. When I tie that sarong and I've got a nice big nod on the side. It's giving me some extra weight on the bottom.
Another thing I've seen a really beautiful one with like Palm palms, hanging all over, brighter colors will give some weight on the bottom. If you have a beautiful waist, if you're an hourglass, you will look fantastic in a sarong.
Something to note about the sarong. Because it's got a little bit more material usually, and you're tying it, you want to keep the top smaller. So I loved a good classic ribbed tank with a sarong. You throw in a straw beach bag with your sarong, your rib tank, and your class step sandals and it is a great look.
Nothing screams classy beach outfit more than a really great straw tote. There is so many of them and something that I love for them, for anything that you can throw your shoes in. The sand can get in. And it goes right through. Towels, sunglasses.
Be careful with your sunglasses. You should probably put them in a case or worst case scenario of like wrap them in a tee shirt or something because the straw and the bag will actually scratch them. That's happened to me. So just be a little bit careful with things that can be scratched.
But again, it's just a great look for any beach outfit, I'll leave a bunch of links to those down below some of my favorite. If you guys have a favorite, let me know.
Last but not least it is trending. And I have this ongoing joke with my producer on city line about the anklet. I told her last year. Yeah. Last year that it was coming in. And, um, we kind of always laugh about it because it's so nineties, but it is in fact in, it is in fact trending.
And I do think a nice gold or silver anklet with your classy, uh, swimwear attire is a great addition. It's a bit unexpected. And I think to me, it kind of looks like you really put it together or it could look effortlessly chic.
Again with the anklet. I would spend the most that you can. Because if it is gold plated or something like that, if you are going in and out of the water, it can tend to tarnish.
So if you can spend a little bit more on it and you think you're going to get a lot of use out of it, they tend to come in and out of trends. So something really nice to keep. It's actually a great addition to your wardrobe and you look very dressy.
Lastly, I just want to say, don't be afraid to add a little color. It's still classy. I saw the most gorgeous yellow calfgan, some beautiful rich Royal blue wrap skirts. It's still a great way to elevate your look. Look classy, but still have a little fun.
I hope that you guys enjoyed this video. Let me know what you thought down below. Let me know if you have any favorite pieces. Also, of course as always let me know what city you're from, because I love seeing that. And I will see you guys on the next video.

Kim was absolutely a dream to work with. I had to find a dress for a New York red carpet film premiere, and she came to my home with amazing options to get the look perfect. She nailed it, and was so kind and supportive! She really made me feel super confident for such an important event, and took the stress off of me for getting the look together!
It was so great to work with her, and I look forward to the next time :)
